Is your Refrigerator running all of the time?

Is Your Refrigerator running all of the time? You may want to check your door gaskets.

A worn-out gasket can cause your fridge to run warm, and more often, leading to higher electric bills and wear and tear on your fridge.
  • Here are a couple of things to check for when inspecting your gasket:
  • Look for condensation or black mold. If you find either, the gasket should be replaced.
  • Take a dollar bill and close the refrigerator door on it. Try pulling on the bill slowly. If there's a slight drag on the bill, your gasket is okay. If the bill slides out easily then it's time for a new gasket.

Dishwasher not cleaning properly?

Give your dishwasher a good scrubbing.
Take these steps to make your dishwasher squeaky clean again!
  • 1. Clean out the screen at the bottom of your tub. All of the crud off your dishes runs through here and sometimes gets caught in the screen.
  • 2. Look at the ports in the sprayer arm(s) and make sure they're unclogged by poking out any food particles.
  • 3. Open the door all the way and clean the bottom edge of the door and the area at the bottom of the dishwasher where the door (when closed) covers. You may need a degreaser to get it good and clean.
  • 4. Lastly, use a dishwasher cleaner/disinfectant and run a full cycle (without any dishes or detergent). This will leave your dishwasher smelling fresh once again.

Know the Symptoms of a Bad Ignitor.
Gas ovens are preferred for their cooking precision. However, when an ignitor begins to go out, the temperature control becomes erratic.
Aggravating as it may be, this is actually your ignitor's way of telling you to replace it, before you're left with an oven full of raw food.
First things first...
  • Before jumping to conclusions, it's always best to dot your i's and cross your t's.
  • Make sure the oven is plugged in, getting power, and the gas valve is open. If you have an older oven with a mechanical timer, make sure it hasn't been accidentally bumped off the manual setting.
  • If all that checks out, and the oven still isn't firing up, then the ignitor's probably to blame.
But, my ignitor still glows...
  • Even if your ignitor is still producing that pretty, orange glow, it doesn't mean it's working properly. Without going into the technical details, basically as the ignitor gets older, the electrical current can't flow through it as well, and eventually not at all.
  • In fact, if it takes more than 3 minutes for the ignitor to fire up, it's most likely bad.
